New Office

During January we have been very busy, but not with the usual app-making - we've moved into our new office!  After 4 years of working out of the bedroom it was high time to get some more space, and here we are:

Main workdesk + sideboard with coffee, tea etc

Reading / relaxing corner

Traditional Swedish decorations sold to tourists

Extra workspace

Lots of storage space and a beer fridge!

App Family donates 1000 EUR to charity

We make apps that are enjoyed by millions of children around the world. However, not all children are fortunate enough to grow up with their families in a safe, loving home. We want to help those children, and we have now donated (for the second time) 1000 Euro to SOS Children's Villages.

SOS Children's Villages offers a home for children in need. As they themselves put it:

We work to prevent family breakdown and care for children who have lost parental care, or who risk losing it. We work with communities, partners and states to ensure that the rights of all children, in every society, are respected and fulfilled.

What a great start to 2016! :)

Submitted MyMemo to Apple

Yesterday I finally submitted MyMemo to Apple for review. Fingers crossed it passes...

MyMemo is the first of our "Educational Apps" series, created in a joint project with Elisabet Wahlström, a well-known educator here in Sweden. Elisabet is head of preschool education in a local Stockholm council (Nacka kommun), author of two books on using iPads in preschool teaching, and a popular speaker on the topic.

Our app lets preschool teachers or parents create custom decks of cards, using their own photos and audio recordings.

Not only that, but they can create decks where pairs consist of different images. This is a unique feature that adds a great deal of value in an educational setting, allowing teachers to re-inforce a wide range of relationships such as rhyming words, relationships between adult and child animals, big and small lettters, colors, and more.

Learn the different names of adult and young animals using split decks

We have polished the user interface to be intuitive enough for a child to use, and tweaked dozens of interactions to get them just right. Also, in order to get users up and running we have bundled four high-quality decks and localized audio to five languages: English, Spanish, German, French and Swedish.

Try the bundled decks with tools, vegetables & fruits, vehicles and animals

We are also working on a written user guide to help teachers learn how to use MyMemo in a variety of scenarios (in progress).

The app will be published as soon as it passes review, hopefully around mid-November.
